Our story

Three generations, one village

Walter Penwardine was the village carpenter when he made his first coffin for a neighbour in 1962. His daughter Ruth took over in 1995, and today she works alongside her own daughter, Kate.

We are not a big company and never want to be. We know the churches, chapels and burial grounds of the valley, and many of the families too. We will sit with you at your kitchen table and plan a funeral that feels right.

Direct cremation

A simple cremation with no service on the day. You can hold your own gathering or memorial later, wherever you like.

What does a funeral cost?

Most families we help spend between the cost of our attended funeral and a little more for extras like a second car or flowers. We will always write it down for you first.
